March 31, 2006 SIUE Soccer Presents Soccer Fest EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s soccer team will hold Soccer Fest on Saturday, April 8, at the Florissant Civic Center Field in Florissant, Mo. The event features many talented soccer players from around the St. Louis metro area in five games starting at noon. Soccer Fest aims to fund a scholarship at SIUE in the name of Thomas P. Howe, Sr. Howe’s son, Thomas Jr., played for the Cougars from 1968 to 1971 and was an intregal part in forming the Scott Gallagher Soccer Club. Howe played an integral role in SIUE gaining its bond between Scott Gallagher Soccer Club and players ready to wear the red and white of the Cougars. The Soccer Fest is designed to recognize the long-lasting relationship and to ensure its future with the establishment of a scholarship. The event begins with the Scott Gallagher Under 18 team facing the St. Louis PDL Lions. At 1:30 p.m., the Over 30 St. Louis “Darby” game features Wente’s against St. Louis Scott Gallagher. The SIUE alumni faces the Saint Louis University Alumni, with segments for over 30 and under 30, at 3 p.m. The SIUE men’s soccer team plays Quincy University at 4:30 p.m. The final game at 6:30 p.m. pits Scott Gallagher Under 17 vs. the Ohio Eagles in a Midwest Regional League game. A presentation in the name of Thomas P. Howe Sr. will be made at the halftime of the alumni game. Admission is free for the event with prizes, festivities, and a barbecue. The Cougars are coming off a 2005 campaign in which they finished as NCAA national semifinalists with a 16-3-3 record. SIUE has been in the national semifinals in three out of the last four collegiate seasons. SIUE is led by Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year Ed Huneke.
