November 5, 2005 Thibodeau Named GLVC Player of the Year INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Kevin Thibodeau (St. Charles, Mo.) has been named Great Lakes Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year as the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's soccer team has eight players named All-GLVC. Thibodeau becomes the third Cougar in the last five years to gain the honor. Addae Rique (2003) and Justin McMillian (2001) were the other two Cougars to win the award. Thibodeau was also named to the first team along with Mike Banner (Washington, D.C.), Victor Pacheco (San Luis, Brazil), John Matthews (Edwardsville), and Brian Higgins (St. Louis, Mo.). Thibodeau may have had only one goal and two assists on the year, but his play in the backfield sparked the Cougars to a 0.56 goals against average. Banner and Pacheco are tied for the team lead with seven goals each. Matthews has five points (2G, 1A) on the season while Higgins has eight (2G, 4A). Pete Caccitore (St. Louis, Mo.) and Trevor House (St. Louis, Mo.) collected second team honors in the backfield. Mike Zaegel (St. Louis, Mo. was named honorable mention All-GLVC. Cacciatore, House, Zaegel are apart of a backfield that has allowed just 11 goals this season. SIUE is 15-2-2 on the year and will await word this week on an NCAA bid.
