SIUE Soccer Presents Soccer Fest
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s soccer team will hold Soccer Fest on Sunday, April 17, at the Eagan Center Field in Florrissant, Mo.
The event features many talented soccer players from around the St. Louis metro area in a tripleheader starting at 12:30 p.m. Soccer Fest aims to establish a scholarship at SIUE in the name of Thomas P. Howe, Sr.
Howe’s son, Thomas Jr., played for the Cougars from 1968 to 1971 and was an integral part in forming the Scott Gallagher Soccer Club. Howe played an integral role in SIUE gaining its bond between Scott Gallagher Soccer Club and players ready to wear the red and white of the Cougars. The Soccer Fest is designed to recognize the long-lasting relationship and to ensure its future with the establishment of a scholarship.
The event begins as the Scott Gallagher Under-18 team faces the Florrissant Cougars Under-18 at 12:30 p.m. That contest will be followed by the SIUE Alumni taking on the Scott Gallagher Alumni at 2 p.m. Soccer Fest concludes with SIUE’s men’s soccer team taking on the University of Missouri-Kansas City at 3:30 p.m.
A presentation in the name of Thomas P. Howe Sr. will be made at the halftime of the alumni game. Admission is free for the event with prizes, festivities, and a barbecue.
The Cougars are coming off a 2004 campaign in which they finished as NCAA runners-up with a 19-3-2 record, tying the school record for wins in a season. After the loss of just two seniors and the return of nine starters, SIUE is expected to have another outstanding season in 2005.
