Indianapolis, IN – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville received nine first-place votes and 99 points to edge Lewis University for the #1 spot in the 2004 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) men’s soccer preseason coaches poll. The Cougars ended the 2003 season with a 16-4-1 regular season record and a perfect 10-0 conference record to earn first place among GLVC teams. The team was ranked #17 in the final 2003 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.

2003 GLVC “Coach of the Year” Ed Huneke will welcome back six starters, including sophomore midfielder Victor Pacheco (Sao Luis, Brazil). Pacheco had 12 goals, seven assists, and 4 PK goals in 21 games.

Conference play begins on September 17 and culminates with the GLVC tournament hosted by the #1 seed at the conclusion of regular season play. This year’s conference tournament will feature a new format of six teams instead of eight with semifinal and final games being played November 5 and 7.
