Burgund Named All-American
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s soccer player Michael Burgund has been named a second team All-American by National Soccer Coaches Association.
Burgund, a member of SIUE’s national runner-up team, was also an All-Great Lakes Region and All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection leading the Cougars to a 19-3-2 record this season.
“In addition to being a quality two-way player, who defends well and scores big goals,” said SIUE soccer coach Ed Huneke. “He is a high quality person, who is enjoyable to coach.”
The native of Bethalto, netted six goals adding two assists for the Cougars. The senior led the team with a .261 shooting percentage.
The Cougar defender netted a goal in the national semifinal win over the University of North Carolina-Pembroke. Burgund was a key part of an SIUE defense that allowed 0.64 goals a game.
