First-Half Surge Lifts Cougars
         EDWARDSVILLE - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville scored back-to-back goals within 20 seconds of one another in the first six minutes in a 5-1 romp over Missouri-Rolla.
         SIUE improved to 4-1 with the victory while Missouri-Rolla fell top 1-4.
         The Cougars picked up a goal from Michael Burgund (Bethalto) at 5:08 off a restart from Brian Higgins (St. Louis), who would go on to record two more assists on the night. Tim Collico (St. Louis) followed Burgund's goal with a score of his own just 20 seconds later.
         SIUE picked up three more first-half goals from Victor Pacheco (Sao Luis, Brazil), the GLVC Player of the Week, as well as Ross Beveridge (Dunfermline, Scotland) and a second goal from Collico.
         SIUE Coach Ed Huneke's team outshot the Miners 16-4 in the first half but were outshot in the second half 4-2. Nicholas Frasca (St. Charles, Mo.) recorded a perfect half in goal for SIUE. Pat Kelly (Florissant, Mo.) closed the door on the Miners in the second half.
         Missouri-Rolla scored its lone goal at 56:15 as Will Kirby headed a corner kick from Nick Toeller.
         SIUE's next action is Sunday at Ashland (Ohio). Game time is 3 p.m.
