Cougars Upend Columbia
The No. 18-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s soccer enjoyed a successful beginning to the 2004 season with a 2-1 triumph over NAIA power Columbia on Friday at Korte Stadium.
Adam Lanter (Edwardsville) scored his first collegiate goal, a game-winner at 36:27 in the first half. Lanter's high school teammate John Matthews (Edwardsville) collected the game-winning assist.
Columbia took the lead early as Ben Boehner scored at 8:23 on a n assist by Juan Pablo Irrera. That woke up SIUE as Tim Collico scored at 22:31 to even the score.
SIUE's next action is Sunday when the Cougars face Christian Brothers at Korte Stadium. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
