April 20, 2005 SIUE Soccer Ranks Sixth In Total Attendance EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s soccer team ranked sixth total attendace in NCAA Division II for the 2004 season. The Cougars, who made it to the national championsip game, drew 3,860 fans to their 12 home games at Ralph Korte Stadium and Bob Guelker Field. SIUE compiled a record of 11-0-1 at home last season. “That means we are putting on a good show on the field and with good promotions,” said SIUE soccer coach Ed Huneke. SIUE's NCAA quaterfinal round win over Tusculum on Nov. 20 was the sixth largest crowd for a NCAA Division II soccer game in 2004 with 850 fans.   “We are fortunate to have a loyal alumni following in the area," said Huneke. "That helps us in a number of ways.” The Cougars ranked 12th in average attendance with 321 people attending each home game. SIUE tied the school-record for wins in 2004 finishing with a 19-3-2 record. The Cougars were Great Lakes Valley Conference and Great Lakes Region Champions.
