Cougars Shut Down Quincy
Cal Thomas and Victor Pacheco each scored as the visiting SIUE Cougars shutout Quincy University 2-0 Friday night. It was the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams.
SIUE (4-2, 1-0 GLVC) struck first on Thomas' goal in the 21st minute. Addae Rique was credited with an assist on the play. Pacheco's score was unassisted in the 50th minute.
SIUE controlled the offensive flow of the game, outshooting Quincy (1-4-1, 0-1 GLVC) 19-7. SIUE goalkeeper Bret Richardson made four saves in the shutout.
SIUE's next action will be Sunday when it travels to Missouri-St. Louis for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.
