Cougars Fall to Christian Brothers
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Despite outshooting its opponents 20-9, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville didn't like the outcome on the scoreboard, losing to Christian Brothers 2-1 Saturday.
SIUE's record fell to 1-2 as SIUE's offense struggled to find the net. A successful penalty kick by Victor Pacheco was SIUE's lone goal of the game at 72:42.
Christian Brothers took the early lead at 33:15 as Mariano Illari scored past SIUE goalkeeper Bret Richardson on an assist from Alan Whittington.
The game was marred by 10 yellow cards, seven of which went to the home Buccaneers.
Tied 1-1, Christian Brothers avoided overtime with a goal off a head ball from Adam Levy at 80:35. SIUE now turns its attention to Illinois-Springfield in a Tuesday road game.
