Velten Earns GLVC Honor
Tim Velten (St. Louis), who has helped the 11th-ranked Cougars to a 15-2 overall record and a 10-0 conference mark, has been named the men's soccer Co-Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week. Velten shares the honor with Wisconsin-Parkside's Atsuhiko Chikuhama.
Velten, a sophomore back, opened the scoring in both of SIUE's victories last week. He scored in SIUE's 3-0 victory at Bellarmine and knocked in the eventual game-winning goal in the Cougars' 2-0 victory against Lewis.
Both victories gave SIUE the No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament and the right to host the semifinals and finals on Nov. 7 and 8.
