Cougars Shut Down Bellarmine
SIUE shutout host Bellarmine University today 3-0, but is still one victory away from capturing the No. 1 seed at next weekend's Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
SIUE's win, accompanied by Lewis' win today against Northern Kentucky, sets up a Monday showdown between SIUE and Lewis that will determine the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament. The game was originally scheduled to be played earlier in the year but was postponed due to rain. Monday's game time is set for 4 p.m.
SIUE, now 14-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in GLVC play, picked up goals from Tim Velten, Cal Thomas and Addae Rique.
SIUE goalkeeper Bret Richardson made six saves to secure the shutout. SIUE outshot Bellarmine 15-11 and had a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
SIUE is currently on a 13-game winning streak.
