McMillian, Maddox Named to All-GLVC Men’s Soccer Team
(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.) The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s
soccer team had two players named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference
team. Junior Justin McMillian (Granite City) and sophomore Cress Maddox
(Springfield) were named to the first and second teams, respectively.
The Cougars, who were picked in the preseason coaches poll to finish sixth
in the GLVC, finished the season with a 11-7-1 overall record and 8-2-1
record in the conference, which earned them a No. 3 seed in the conference
tournament.
McMillian emerged early as the Cougars’ main scoring threat. His 21 points
on nine goals and three assists ranked sixth in the GLVC. McMillian also
notched two game-winning goals. The Cougars’ record was 7-2 when McMillian
scored a point and 4-5-1 when he failed to score. He was also named the
SIUE Cougar athlete of the month of September.
Maddox is a tenacious, hard-nosed marking back who often kept the
opponent’s top scorer away from any scoring opportunities. Although Maddox
spent much of his time in the backfield, he had a game-winning goal in
overtime against Lewis. He also was one of only three Cougars to start all
19 games on the season.
