Marcuzzo To Step Down as SIUE Golf Coach
EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Mark Marcuzzo, the head coach for men's and women's golf programs at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, will step down so that he may pursue a professional opportunity in Arizona.
SIUE Director of Athletics Brad Hewitt made the announcement Friday.
"I am very pleased with the way he restarted the men’s golf program and kept the women’s program on solid ground," said Hewitt.
Marcuzzo, a former Cougar student-athlete, returned to the program as the men’s golf program returned to intercollegiate status. In its first year since returning, the Cougars placed third at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, while Kyle Gansauer and Craig Heinzmann received All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors.
Marcuzzo also stepped into the role as the women’s golf head coach. SIUE placed fifth at the NCAA East Regional, garnering its fourth straight NCAA Tournament bid.
Hewitt said an immediate search would begin to look for a new, part-time coach for the programs.
