December 5, 2007 Cougars Drive Past Oakland City OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- John Edmison led four players in double figures Tuesday as Southern Illinois University collected a 76-63 road victory over Oakland City. SIUE evened its overall record at 3-3 while Oakland City fell to 5-2. The Cougars used a 37-24 advantage in rebounds and 12 steals to their advantage. Edmison led SIUE in scoring with 13 points followed by 12 from Jeremy Gathing, 11 from Anthony Jones and 10 from J.B. Jones. Shooting a consistent 51 percent in both halves, SIUE garnered a 43-38 lead by halftime and pulled away in the second half. Despite foul trouble from post players Nikola Bundalo and Doug Taylor, SIUE guards picked up their play. Point guard Leonard Parker finished with nine assists and a game-high nine rebounds. Oakland City picked up a strong game from Keegan Carmony, who led all scorers with 24 points. The Oaks struggled from the free throw line, notably in the second half as they hit just 1 of 9 from the charity stripe. SIUE is now idle for nearly two weeks. The Cougars' next action is Mon., Dec. 17, against Henderson State at the Vadalabene Center in a 7 p.m. contest. -siue cougars- |
