November 29, 2007 Hot-Shooting Bellarmine Drops Cougars EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Bellarmine shot 65.2 percent from the field Thursday and defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 84-67 at the Vadalabene Center. SIUE fell to 2-2 overall in its Great Lakes Valley Conference season debut game. Bellarmine improved to 5-1 for the season. Bellarmine's Jamie Jackson, who came into the game averaging 5.2 points per game, scored a game-high 28 points, including a perfect 4 of 4 from three-point range. Chartrael Hall pumped in 20 points while Dzaflo Larkai added 11 points. SIUE, meanwhile, struggled from three-point range, hitting 6 of 26 shots. T.J. Gray led SIUE with 16 points, including four three-pointers. The Cougars picked up 11 points from Nikola Bundalo and 10 from Asa Clayborne. The Cougars were within five points at halftime and took the lead with a three-point play from J.B. Jones with 14:45 left. Steve Pogue's three-pointer two minutes later put Bellarmine ahead for good. Bellarmine, which held a three-point lead with 6:35 to play, outscored SIUE 19-5 over the final ticks of the clock. SIUE returns to action Saturday at the Vadalabene Center when it entertains Northern Kentucky. Tip-off time is scheduled for 3 p.m. -siue cougars- |
