November 26, 2007 SIUE Men's Basketball Inks Two Guards for 2008-09 EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Aaron Garriott (Bloomington) and Kevin Stineman (Buffalo Grove) have signed national letters of intent to play men's basketball for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The two players join the Cougars at a key time in the program's history. SIUE is finishing off its final year of NCAA Division II action this season and will play under NCAA Division I rules in the 2008-09 season. SIUE coach Lennox Forrester said the duo is excited at the prospects of NCAA Division I basketball. "They both have great basketball IQs and will fit well into our up-tempo style," said Forrester. "They're both very competitive players." Garriott averaged 15.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals his junior season at Bloomington Central Catholic High School. The 6-foot-3-inch point guard was an All-Conference selection and a special mention All-State pick. "Aaron is a scorer, but he can do it all. He can pass. He can shoot. He's very skilled, and he's a good athlete," said Forrester. Stineman helped Stevenson (Lincolnshire) High School to a fourth-place finish at the Illinois AA state championships as a junior. The 6-0 guard scored 21 points in a supersectional win that vaulted Stevenson (Lincolnshire) into the state finals. He also was named among the Illinois Top 25 Prospects by rivals.com. "Kevin can play both the guard positions and is tough and competitive. He's coming to us from a great high school program," said Forrester. SIUE is currently 2-1 and faces Bellarmine to start the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Vadalabene Center. -siue cougars- |
