SIUE, now 15-10 overall and 8-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, took over possession of second place in the GLVC West Division by one-half game over Southern Indiana, 13-11 overall and 7-9 in the GLVC. The Cougars dictated play in the second half, holding USI without a three-pointer in eight attempts.

The Cougars had trouble containing USI center Norman Plummer, who garnered 23 points and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds.
