February 12, 2008 Cougars Face UMSL, Missouri S&T EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- The road swing continues this week for the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball team as it travels to Missouri St. Louis and Missouri Science and Technology. SIUE, 12-9 overall and 5-8 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, just returned from a two-game road trip against Lewis and UW-Parkside. SIUE's five-game road trip concludes next Tuesday at Quincy. T.J. Gray became SIUE's all-time leader in single-season three-pointers last week, adding nine more to his total. Gray, who is No. 3 in the nation with 4.2 three-pointers per game, has 83 for the season, eclipsing the old record of 74 set by Ron Jones in the 2002-2003 season. The Cougars are coming off their first road victory of the season at UW-Parkside. Gray, Nikola Bundalo (Belgrade, Serbia), Doug Taylor (McClure), Anthony Jones (Centralia), and J.B. Jones (Belleville) all scored in double figures as they cruised to a 99-84 victory over UW-Parkside. Coach Lennox Forrester and his Cougars now turn to road contests at UMSL and MST that are rematches of games from earlier this season. Although SIUE was able to easily dispatch UMSL 74-55 in their first meeting Feb. 2, Forrester said there is more than enough to be concerned about with UMSL, which holds an 8-13 record and a 3-10 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. "Our ball handlers have to be ready because they press a lot. We also have to keep their guard (Paul) Paradoski under control," said Forrester. SIUE leads the all-time series 43-30. Tip-off for Thursday's game is 7:30 pm at UMSL's Mark Twain Building. The Cougars will shift their focus Saturday toward the Missouri S&T. In their meeting on Jan. 31, Missouri S&T's Justin Taylor and Taurance Townsel were kept in check. Since then, the duo has emerged as the top two scorers for the Miners. They are averaging 14.7 and 10.7, respectively, for the Miners, now 3-18 overall and 0-13 in the GLVC. SIUE leads the all-time series against Missouri S&T 11-7. The scheduled start time is 3 p.m. at the Gale Bullman Building. -siue cougars- |
