February 2, 2008 SIUE Powers Past UMSL EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville used another hot shooting game to power past the University of Missouri-St. Louis 74-55. This is the third game in a row that SIUE has shot better than 50 percent from the field. The Cougars, who hit 23 of 43 shots from the field for 53.5 percent, are now 10-8 overall and 4-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. T.J. Gray (Chicago) tied his season high with his 26-point showing. With five three-pointers Saturday, Gray has hit a GLVC-leading 70 three-pointers this season. The SIUE single-season record for three-pointers is 74 by Ron Jones during the 2002-2003 season. Asa Clayborne (Springfield) and John Edmison (Springfield) were both on the verge of having a double-double night. Clayborne had 16 points and eight rebounds while Edmison chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds. Adam Kaatman led the UMSL offensive attack with 14 points off the bench. David Ward and Jason Black added an additional 12 and 10 points each. UMSL is now 7-12 overall and 2-9 in GLVC play. SIUE will take tomorrow off and return to the Vadalabene Center on Monday to take on the Oakland City Oaks. Tip off time is 7:30 pm. -siue cougars- |
