January 24, 2008 KWC Holds Off Cougars OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Kentucky Wesleyan's Jeff Fahnbulleh scored 25 and grabbed 23 rebounds as the Panthers held off Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Thursday 77-69 in men's college basketball at the Owensboro Sportscenter. SIUE didn't have an answer for Fanbulleh, who helped the Panthers outrebound SIUE 37-16. With the loss, SIUE fell to 8-7 and 2-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. SIUE next heads to Southern Indiana Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup. On Thursday, the Cougars loaded up on three-pointers with six from T.J. Gray and five from Asa Clayborne. Gray finished as SIUE's leading scorer with 22 points. Clayborne scored all of his points from three-point range and grabbed half of SIUE's rebounds with eight. Both teams were stunningly accurate from three-point range. SIUE hit 14 of 23 for 60.9 percent. KWC counter-punched with a 10-for-15 performance beyond the arc for 66.7 percent. SIUE took advantage of 19 KWC turnovers and made more field goals than its opponents. KWC made its game from the free throw line, hitting 17 of 26 attempts in the second half. -siue cougars- |
