January 10, 2008 Rockhurst Snaps SIUE's Five-Game Win Streak KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville had its five-game winning streak halted Thursday in a 70-63 loss to Rockhurst in men's Great Lakes Valley Conference basketball play. SIUE connected on a season-high 14 three-pointers, including a career-best seven from Anthony Jones. The senior guard led all scorers with 22 points. While the three-pointers were lopsided for the Cougars, 14-5, Rockhurst clearly gained an advantage by hitting its free throws. The Hawks scored 15 of 16 from the line. SIUE, which did not have a free throw attempt in the first half, recorded just 1 of 6 from the line. The Cougars were down by two points at halftime 29-27 after holding as much as a nine-point lead in the first half. SIUE never regained the lead in the second half despite the efforts of Jones and T.J. Gray, who hit five three-pointers in the second frame and finished with 17 points. Joey Deas led four players in double figures for Rockhurst, finishing with 20 points. Rockhurst improved to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC. SIUE, now 7-4 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC, next heads to Drury when it faces the Panthers in a 1 p.m. game in Springfield, Mo. -siue cougars- |
