GREAT LAKES VALLEY CONFERENCE
SECTION 8 - TENNIS - MEN & WOMEN
- REGULATIONS FOR ALL CONFERENCE COMPETITION
- The USTA Code of Conduct and ITA rules shall apply in all matches, except as amended below.
- In the event regular season scheduled matches are moved indoors due to weather conditions, expenses for court time shall be the financial responsibility of the host institution. In the event conference championship scheduled matches are moved indoors due to weather conditions, expenses for court time shall be shared among the participating teams.
- REGULAR SEASON COMPETITION
- A Friday-Saturday single round robin conference schedule, with mid-week contests scheduled against travel partners in women's and men's tennis shall be prepared by the Commissioner for approval by the Conference. Any change in the approved tennis schedule shall be coordinated through the Commissioner's office and approved by the commissioner.
- Start times for Friday matches will be scheduled at 2 p.m. local time. Start time for Saturday matches will be scheduled for 10 a.m. local time. (Effective 8/1/06)
- The rescheduling of any postponed tennis match shall occur as soon as possible after the regularly scheduled date.
- The regular season host institution shall FAX conference results to the SID of the Championship host institution by Monday following matches. The conference host SID will compile results and FAX back to coaches.
- Conference matches will be played as regulation dual matches with three (3) eight-game, pro set doubles matches, with the winner of each doubles matches earning one point, followed by six (6) best of three set singles matches each valued at one team point. Regular scoring will be used and a 12-point tiebreaker will be played at six games all in singles and at eight games all in doubles. Matches will be played to completion unless prevented by the elements. Indoor matches will stop at five (5) points unless both coaches agree to continue play. A USTA and ITA certified official must be at every conference match. If two facilities are used to host a conference match one USTA and ITA certified official must be secured for each site. - When a visiting team travel to the host site and the host site has less than four players and forfeits the match, the host team shall pay the travel expenses of the visiting team. (Host coaches should call ahead to check on the travel arrangements of visiting teams and inform them on the status of their teams.
- All Conference matches must be played on a hard court surface.
- CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION
- Men: The top four teams in each division as determined by conference divisional play will advance to the conference team tournament. Play will begin with 1E-4W (match #1), 2W-3E (match #2), 1W-4E (match #3), 2E-3W (match #4) playing at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The winner of match #1 will play the winner of match #2 (match #5), the winner of match #3 will play the winner of match #4 (match #6) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The winner of match #5 and the winner of match #6 will play in the championship match (match #7) at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The conference team tournament will be played as regulation dual matches with three (3) eight-game, pro set doubles matches, each valued at one team point, followed by six (6) best of three set singles matches each valued at one team point. Regular scoring will be used and a 12-point tiebreaker will be played at six games all in singles and at eight games all in doubles. A team is determined to be the winner once five points have been won and matches will then be considered complete.
- Women: The top four teams from each division in regular season standings will advance to the eight-team conference tournament. Play will begin with 1E vs 4W (match #1), 2E vs 3W (match #2), 3E vs 2W (match #3), 4E vs 1W (match #4) playing at 9:00 a.m. The winner of match #1 will play the winner of match #3, the winner of match #2 will play the winner of match #4. The winner of match #3 and the winner of match #4 will play in the championship match (match #7) at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The conference team tournament will be played as regulation dual matches with three (3) eight-game, pro set doubles matches, each valued at one team point, followed by six (6) best of three set singles matches each valued at one team point. Regular scoring will be used and a 12-point tiebreaker will be played at six games all in singles and at eight games all in doubles. A team is determined to be the winner once five points have been won and matches will then be considered complete.
- All teams shall be seeded based on the final conference round-robin results. The following tiebreakers, listed in priority order, shall be used if necessary: (Multiple teams tied see 1.c.4)
- Head-to-head competition
- Head-to-head competition with the remaining institutions in order of standing
- Total number of matches won versus common opponents, provided all matches under
consideration are played to completion (i.e. nine (9) matches)
- Total matches won versus divisional opponent in order of standing
- A coin flip involving all teams involved in the tie, with the "odd" team eliminated

- The official tennis ball of the GLVC will be used for all conference competition.
- The site of the conference team tournament shall rotate among the east (NKU & UI), central (UMSL & SIUE), and west (DU & RU). All championship matches must be played on regular hard surfaced courts, with alternate indoor facilities available to host the conference team tournament. (Effective 10/11/05)
- The tournament shall be held two weeks prior to the start of the NCAA Championships for men and women. The format, weather permitting, will be as follows: (Effective 10/11/05)

*Start times for the tournament will be announced when the number of outdoor courts reserved for the championship has been determined.
- The winner of the conference women's tournament and conference men's tournament will be declared conference champion.
- NCAA Tournament Representative: the conference champion shall represent the GLVC in the NCAA Tournament. If unexpected termination (see Section 1.C.5) occurs prior to the conclusion of the GLVC Championship, the team with highest percentage of conference matches won shall be the GLVC automatic qualifier, and declared GLVC Champion. In case of a tie, the tie-breaking procedures of 8.C.2 will be applied to determine the GLVC automatic qualifier.
- AWARDS (See Section 1 ALL SPORTS, part D. AWARDS; the following are specific additions or changes to the general guidelines given there.)
- Balloting for awards will take place following the end of the regular season, and prior to the conference tournament. The ballots must be faxed to the Conference SID by noon on the Wednesday prior to the start of the conference tournament.
- Men: All-Conference certificates will be presented to the recipients at a team reception on Thursday evening prior to the conference championship. The time of the reception will be determined by the host institution in consultation with the Commissioner.
- Women: All-Conference certificates will be presented to the recipients at a team reception on Friday evening of the conference championship. The time of the reception will be determined by the host institution in consultation with the Commissioner.
All Conference Team Twelve individuals will be chosen by the coaches.
Coach-of-the-Year If no selection is made, the coach of the championship team will receive the award.
Player-of-the-Year Each coach may nominate one player for the Player-of-the-Year Award, to be voted on separately by the coaches. The individual who receives the most Player-of-the-Year votes will be the winner.
Freshman-of-the-Year Each coach may nominate one player for Freshman-of-the-Year
All Sports Trophy Points for places 1-6 will be determined by the team’s finish in the tournament, and places 7-9 will revert back ot the regular season standings. In the event the fifth place match is eliminated, places 5-6 will also revert back to the regular season standings.
- COACHES ASSOCIATION
- Each Coaches Association shall meet at least once annually, either in person or by conference call. Such meetings shall be scheduled by the conference commissioner.
- A Chairperson and Secretary of the Coaches Association shall be elected at this meeting. The Chairperson shall conduct the meeting and represent the coaches, along with the conference Athletic Director liaison, during his or her tenure.
- A report of the women's minutes and the championship event shall be filed with the conference prior to Dec. 20. A report of the men's minutes and the championship event shall be filed with the conference prior to the first scheduled session at the spring conference meeting.
- The liaison Athletic Director assigned by the conference shall attend the annual coaches meeting serving in an advisory capacity only.
- The current chairperson shall appoint two other head coaches who shall serve as the Coaches Association advisory committee.
- PUBLICITY AND STATISTICS
- The SID of the host institution for the GLVC tennis championship (men or women) shall be responsible for gathering and disseminating results and information about the event. The championships information should include all team and individual scores after each round as necessary as well as any awards presented at the event (i.e. Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-GLVC).
- The SID of each participating institution participating in the conference tournament shall submit a team roster which includes first and last name, year of competition and hometown to the SID of the host institution no later than two weeks prior to the start of the championship.
- The SID of the host institution for the GLVC tennis championship (men or women) shall be responsible for compiling and disseminating the weekly standings, which should be posted on the GLVC web site.
