Brown Leads SIUE at Border Wars
          Southern Illinois University Edwardsville runner Kayla Brown (Petersburg) did not let the October heat stop her as she ran to a second-place finish at Border Wars.
          Brown finished with a time of 18 minutes, 30.45 seconds in the 5,000-meter run. Kimi Shank, of Missouri Southern, finished first with a time of 18:19.06. Julianne Hoekzema, of Northern Kentucky, rounded out the top three with her time of 18:31.70.
          Kelly Flounders (Homer Glen), Stacey Briggs (Argenta), Maggie Krall (Bloomington), Stephanie Briggs (Argenta), and Lindsey Mulvey (Rochester) helped the Cougars to a 10th-place finish.
          Missouri Southern State won the team title with 61 points outrunning DePauw with 92 points and Southwest Baptist with 137. SIUE scored 268 at the 25-team event.
          SIUE's next action is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in Indianapolis on Saturday, Oct. 20.
