October 21, 2006 COMPLETE RESULTS Brown Named All-GLVC and Freshman of the Year EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Kayla Brown (Petersburg) earned All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors Saturday and was named Freshman of the Year at the 2006 GLVC Cross Country Championships on the campus of SIUE. Brown finished the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 16.07 seconds. It was the fastest 6K time ever by an SIUE runner in school history and the second fastest time ever. The only previous best was Breanne Steffens at the 2003 NCAA Regionals. Brown led the race at one point but fell to Southern Indiana's Allie Shafer, who won the meet in a time of 21:46.07. UW-Parkside was the team champion with a score of 39 followed by Southern Indiana with 53. SIUE placed eighth overall with 195. Kelly Flounders (Homer Glen) was SIUE's next fastest runner in 30th place at 23:47.70. -siue cougars- |
