Cougars Women’s Cross Country Takes Ninth
The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women’s cross country team finished ninth out of 44 schools in last weekend’s Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.
Amanda Bozue (Joliet) led the Cougars with a 42nd-place time of 19 minutes, 6 seconds in the 5,000-meter race. Carrie Carducci (Powell, Ohio) finished 51st in a time of 19:18 while Mary Witte (Normal) finished 68th in 19:41.
Maria Ewersmann (St. Paul, Mo.) ran to a time of 19:50, while Breanne Steffens (Moline) finished at 20:03. Erin McMullen (Salem) finished in a time of 20:23 while Heather Zipparro (Mount Prospect) finished with a time of 20:34.
“It was a real solid effort,” said Coach Darryl Frerker. “Our No. 5 to No. 7 runners ran really well.”
The Cougars will play host to the Missouri/Illinois Border Wars on Saturday. The team then has a week off before the GLVC Championships.
