Cross Country Set to Host SIUE Open
“ I am looking forward to Saturday, “ said SIUE cross country Coach Darryl Frerker. The men and women’s cross country teams begin their season this Saturday at the SIUE Open. The women’s race begins at 9 a.m. Men will run at 9:45 a.m. “I am really interested in seeing the returning runners run,” said Frerker. “They should run a better time in this race than they did in last year’s first race, and I will be looking for that. They need to show me they are in better shape at this time this year than they were at this time last year.” “As for the freshmen, they will be running new and longer distances that in high school. I want to see how they handle it,” said Frerker. Frerker plans to give each of the runners a pace to keep. “It is somewhat hard to establish a pace for them this early in the season, but we will as much as possible,” said Frerker. “Setting paces for them will get easier as the season goes on and I know what they are all capable of. I will have to establish a mile time for each of them and then work from there.” Overall, this race will just determine how tough they team really is according to Frerker. The number of teams competing in this year’s open is still being worked out. |
