Cross Country Heads to GLVC Championships
         There’s isn’t much preparation left for cross country Coach Darryl Frerker. His women’s and men’s teams compete in Saturday’s Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
         Bellarmine (Ky.) University is the host institution for this year’s championships. The women begin at 10 a.m. with a 6,000-meter run. The men follow at 11 a.m. with a 10,000-meter run.
         Frerker said he hopes to improve on last year’s results. SIUE finished sixth on the men’s side and seventh in the women’s race last year.
         “I think we’ve made improvement throughout the year,” said Frerker. “I anticipate being better on both sides.”
         The Cougars haven’t run competitively since Oct. 6 at the Border States Invitational at SIUE.
         Sophomore Tyler Krauss (Freeburg) and freshman Ryan Boyll (Normal) led the SIUE men to a fifth-place finish. Sophomore Breanne Steffens (Moline) finished in the top 10 to power SIUE to a sixth-place finish.
