SIUE Men's Cross Country Looks Head to 2007 Season
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- With two All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honorees, four more experienced runners, and two new faces, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has reason to be excited as it heads into the 2007 men's cross country season.
"We are low on numbers, but high on quality runners," said SIUE cross country head coach David Astrauskas.
Assistant Coach Eileen McAllister said she is anxious to see what the men do during the season. "Our runners put in a lot of work during the off-season that should allow them to maximize their performance and minimize their injuries. It should be a good season for us."
Expecting to see one of the larger runner turnouts for a SIUE meet, Oct. 6th, the Cougars will host the Border Wars. In addition to Borders Wars, SIUE will also host the Division II NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet on Nov. 3rd.
All-GLVC runners Kyle Cameron (East Moline) and Erik Steffens (Moline) anchor a solid group of runners that includes Brian Getz (East Moline), Sean Gosewisch (Lockport), Jared Starnes (Normal), Steve Werths (Granite City) and Ryan Wessling (Lockport).
Three new faces will join the SIUE cross country team this fall, including Stephen Burgess (Urbana), and Shawn Dillard (Granite City).
The SIUE cross country team kicks off its season on Sept. 7 at the Bradley Invite in Peoria.
