August 28, 2006 Cross Country Opens Season at Washington U.           Southern Illinois University Edwardsville assistant cross country coach Eileen McAllister said the opening of the 2006 season will give her an opportunity to see how far along each individual progressed during the preseason.           The opening meet is at the Washington University Early Bird.           "The course will be in Forest Park in St. Louis and will be more competitive than last year's course," said McAllister.           The women's race is a 4,000-meter course and begins at 9 a.m. The men's race follows with a 6,000-meter event beginning at 9:30 a.m.           "It's scheduled to be a bigger meet than in past years. I'm excited about that because it will be able to give us information about our team's depth," said McAllister.           -siue cougars-
