November 21, 2005 Taghon Places 40th at Nationals EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s cross country runner Brian Taghon (East Moline) placed 40th at the NCAA Championships in Pomona, Calif., last Saturday. Taghon finished with a time of 33 minutes, 1.30 seconds, missing All-American status by just five seconds. “He ran well,” said SIUE men’s cross country coach Eileen McAllister. “It was a huge accomplishment (to make nationals) and a great race.” Western State won the national title with 51 points in the meet. Taghon was the only Cougar qualifier. “It was very hot and a tough course,” said McAllister. “Brian stuck to the game plan and ran a smart race.” Taghon finished in the top five of every event before nationals. He won the EIU Panther Open on Sept. 17 and the Sean Earl Lakefront Invite on Oct. 1. -siue cougars- |
