November 7, 2005 Taghon is California Dreamin' EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- For Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men’s cross country runner Brian Taghon (East Moline) to end his career with a trip to the NCAA Championships is something special. Taghon is headed to the nationals in Pomona, Calif., on Nov. 19. after placing second at the Great Lakes Regional last weekend. Taghon finished with a time of 31 minutes, 40 seconds for the second fast mark in school history at 10,000 meters. “He had a strategy and stuck to it,” said SIUE men’s cross country coach Eileen McAllister. “It was a tough race and a tough course. He stayed in the front pack the whole time.” Taghon has finished in the top five of every event this season. He won the EIU Panther open on Sept. 17 and the Sean Earl Lakefront Invite on Oct. 1. Taghon finished third at the Ill./Mo. Border Wars on Oct. 8. “That was a great race (Border Wars) for him,” said McAllister. “When he ran good there it boosted his confidence for the rest of the season.” -siue cougars- |
