Cougars Defeat Miners; Advance to GLVC Tournament
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball left little doubt how badly it wanted to continue playing this season.
With SIUE's 20-8 win Sunday over Missouri S&T and a Drury loss to Southern Indiana, the Cougars earned the No. 2 seed from the West Division. SIUE will play Saint Joseph's, the No. 2 seed in the East Division, at 6 p.m. Thursday. A complete bracket is available at glvcsports.com.
The other first-round games are #1W Southern Indiana vs. #2WC Indianapolis at noon and #1E Bellarmine vs. #1WC Northern Kentucky at 3 p.m.
With today's win, the Cougars improved their record to 24-24 overall and 18-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Eight different players recorded runs batted in for the Cougars. Steve Doll, who had four hits, drove home the most with five.
Josh Street turned in a top-notch performance at the plate, going 5 for 5 with four runs scored and three RBIs.
David Scott (Edwardsville, Ill.) picked up the victory for his four innings of work. His record is now 4-3.
