April 23, 2008 Boxscore McKendree Tops Cougars 4-1 EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- McKendree pitcher Adam Buehne went eight innings without an earned run as the Bearcats topped Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 4-1 in college baseball action. The Cougars dropped to 19-21 overall. McKendree improved to 24-18 after Wednesday's night game in SimmonsCooper Complex at Roy E. Lee Field. Buehne improved to 4-4 overall. SIUE hurler Tim Stunkel took the loss and is now 0-3. Stunkel was pulled in the fourth inning due to an injury. McKendree plated the first run of the game in the first inning as Todd Harpstrite rounded the bases with a home run to left field. The Bearcats added two in the fifth off Cougar reliever David Scott when Harpstrite hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Brad Dunnigan. Calvin O'Rear later doubled home Adam Davinroy from second. McKendree scored its final run in the sixth as Brandon Melliere tripled and scored on an RBI single by Ryan Meyer. SIUE, which outhit the Bearcats 7-6, tallied its lone run in the bottom of the sixth. Chilos Norris III advanced to second when McKendree left fielder Anthony Clervi dropped a curving fly ball. After an infield groundout advanced Norris III to third, Adam Eggemeyer drove him home with a sacrifice fly. Daniel Bennett threw the final two innings for SIUE without giving up a hit. Meanwhile, Tyler Matmiller tossed the final inning for McKendree to earn a save. SIUE returns to Roy Lee Field Friday for a night game.
