Cougars Sweep Series with UMSL
          O'FALLON, MO. -- Thad Hawkins rapped a two-RBI triple in the top of the ninth inning of game two Sunday as Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball secured a four-game sweep over Missouri-St. Louis.
          SIUE improved to 15-13 overall and 9-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Cougars moves into second place in the GLVC West Division.
          Hawkins put the Cougars ahead with his triple down the right field line. He would later score on an error by UMSL pitcher Mark Sanders as the Cougars won the nightcap 5-3.
          In fact, SIUE won both games 5-3 over Missouri-St. Louis, which now stands at 11-17 and 6-10.
          In game one, Daniel Thomson led the way for the Cougars with three hits and two runs batted in. Hawkins also had a pair of hits and an RBI in the sixth inning.
          Andrew Beatty upped his record to 2-3 by giving up four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Mitchell Fairley mopped up the final five outs for his first save.
          Daniel Bennett made the most of his appearance out of the bullpen in game two. He pitched the final 6 2/3 innings in relief of Nick Wooley. SIUE erased UMSL's early 3-0 lead with two runs in the fourth and the three-run rally in the ninth.
          The Cougars next travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for a non-conference game against Indiana State. SIUE returns home Wednesday for a 3 p.m. single game against Indianapolis.
