March 29, 2008 Another Split for Baseball Cougars EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Southern Indiana baseball traded shutouts Saturday at SimmonsCooper Complex. Southern Indiana won game one 1-0 while SIUE took the nightcap 5-0. The Cougars moved to 11-11 overall and 5-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. It was the fifth consecutive GLVC doubleheader split for SIUE. SIUE stranded 11 runners in both games, but it hurt the most in game one. USI hurlers Jeremy Kehrt and Shaun Larsen combined for a seven-hit shutout. SIUE's Cody Litteken went the distance and gave up just four hits. USI scored its only run in the fourth inning when Wes Fink doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Chad Werry. SIUE's offense got to USI in game two. Josh Street and Ben Bartley each had two hits for the Cougars. Street drove home two runs. Aren Cummings earned the victory by going six innings and allowing seven USI hits. Patrick Keller looked strong in his three innings of work and earned his first save of the season. Keller struck out five and did not allow a hit or a walk. The two teams play one more time Sunday in a single game noon at SimmonsCooper Complex. -siue cougars- |
