May 9, 2007 SIUE's Collins Named GLVC Coach of the Year         SAUGET, ILL. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball coach Gary Collins has been selected the Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year by a vote of his peers.         Collins and the Cougars captured the GLVC's regular season title with a 26-10 record and earned the top seed for the GLVC Baseball Tournament, which begins Thursday at GCS Ballpark in Sauget. The 26th-ranked Cougars are 35-13 overall and reeled off 10 straight wins to end the regular season. Collins, who collected his 900th career win during the year, is in his 29th season at SIUE and is No. 6 in wins among active NCAA Division II coaches.         The Cougars finished with seven players gaining All-GLVC honors.         Cory Bunner (Jacksonville), who heads into the GLVC Tournament batting .391, joined starting pitchers James Hertel (Hillsboro) and Adam Tallman (Gillespie) on the first team.         Third baseman Ben Bartley and starting pitcher Gerad Bryan were named to the second team. Outfielder Ryan Czyz and starting pitcher Luke Vine were named honorable mention.         SIUE's offense leads the GLVC in batting with a .304 batting average. The SIUE pitching staff led the GLVC with an impressive 2.31 earned run average. The four SIUE starters named All-GLVC combined for 21 of SIUE's 35 victories so far this season.         Southern Indiana's Darin Mastroianni was named the GLVC's Player of the Year. Mark Marksbury, of Northern Kentucky, was named the GLVC Pitcher of the Year. Drury's Joe Rohlfing was named Freshman of the Year by the GLVC.
