April 22, 2007 SIUE Drops UMSL, 11-4 EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball made it three out of four wins in the series over Missouri-St. Louis with an 11-4 victory Sunday at Roy Lee Field. The win improved SIUE's record to 26-13 and 18-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while UMSL dropped to 16-19 overall and 12-15 in the GLVC. The Cougars posted 15 hits to go along with their 11 runs scored. SIUE was led by Daniel Thomson who went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. James Kulovitz also had a good afternoon hitting 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. UMSL scored all three of its runs off SIUE starter Gerad Bryan in the second inning and then were held scoreless until the top of the ninth. SIUE then took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as Thomson singled hom a pair of runs. Cory Bunner also scored in the fifth on a fielder's choice from Steve Doll. Luke Vine earned the victory in relief and is now 3-2. UMSL's Mike Lantzy dropped to 1-4. SIUE will continue conference play Wednesday against Drury in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Springfield, Mo. -siue cougars- |
