SIUE Splits with UMSL
        EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball team split its Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader against Missouri-St. Louis Saturday with a 4-3 win in game one and a 3-2 loss in game two.
        The split brought SIUE to 25-13 on the season and 17-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while UMSL went to 16-18 and 12-14 in the GLVC. SIUE is now in third place, just 1 1/2 games out of first place.
        In the first game, Steve Doll's RBI double brought home Daniel Thomson for the win 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh.
        Cody Litteken recorded the win for SIUE in relief and improved his record to 4-0 while UMSL's Mark Sanders recorded the loss.
        In the second half, Matt Tesson doubled home a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to give UMSL a 3-1 lead. SIUE fought back in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run by Ben Bartley, but it was not enough and the Cougars lost 3-2.
        The Cougars left 10 men on base in the loss.
        The loss dropped Adam Tallman's record to 3-3 and UMSL's Derek Besonen's win improved his record to 3-1 while Eric Kuntz recorded his third save of the season.
        The Cougars will face UMSL again Sunday at 1 p.m. at Roy Lee Field.
