March 28, 2007 SIUE Sweep Past UWP EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Led by some outstanding pitching, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball team took two games from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Wednesday 3-0 and 2-1 at Roy Lee Field. The two wins put SIUE at 14-7 overall and 9-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while UW-Parkside fell to 12-12 overall and 7-7 in conference play. Gerad Bryan, now 4-0, shutout UWP during his 6 1/3 innings pitched. Bryan struck out six of the 23 batters he faced. Patrick Keller collected the final two outs for his second save. The game was knotted 0-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Daniel Thomson singled home James Kulovitz and then Zach Stead scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning Ryan Czyz was walked with the bases loaded to score Brent Rynearson. The Cougars were led by Adam Tallman in the second game with his complete game and 11-strikeout performance. Tallman gave up only one hit which was a solo home run to UWP's Brad Frank in the top of the second. UWP's had a no-hitter going until the sixth when Seth Hall singled. Ryan Wiggs was put in as a pinch-runner for Hall and then Michael DalPazzo walked. Cory Bunner then laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved both the runners into scoring position before Czyz cleared the bases with a double down the left field line. The Cougars will continue at home Friday when the take on Kentucky Wesleyan in a 7 p.m. single game at Roy Lee Field. -siue cougars- |
