Jones Collects All-American Honors
        EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougar baseball pitcher Kyle Jones has been named to the 2006 Rawlings/ABCA All-American First Team.
        Jones, a native of New Baden, is the first Cougar to be named to the first team since Mark Bugger claimed that honor in 2001.
        Jones also was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference and North Central Region Pitcher of the Year, as he notched first team GLVC and North Central Region honors.
        The righthander ended his season with a 11-1 record and a 0.85 earned run average. Jones fanned 103 batters, allowing 30 walks in 84 and two-third innings pitched.
        Jones holds the single-season record for earned run average (0.85) and he tied the SIUE single-season record for wins (11) tying John Groennert (1987), Jones' coach at Wesclin High School.
        He set NCAA D-II record with 54 and one-third innings consecutive scoreless innings pitched. Jones also had a string of six 1-0 victories from Mar. 10 to Apr. 15 this season.
        Jones was a member of an SIUE pitching staff that set an NCAA record with 21 shutouts this season. Jones set an NCAA record with six shutouts this season, while he combinded for four other shutouts.
        The Cougars set another NCAA record as they started the NCAA Tournament with 22 consecutive scoreless innings before giving up a run. Jones threw six of those innings, getting an NCAA tournament win over Northern Kentucky on May 18.
        SIUE ended its season with a 40-19-1 mark and a third place finish in the North Central Regional Tournament.
