Quincy Nips Cougars 5-3
SAUGET, Ill. -- Quincy pitcher Nick Dunning held off Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for eight innings and drove home three runs to help his own cause as the Hawks downed the Cougars 5-3 at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Tournament at GCS Ballpark. SIUE, 38-16-1, and Quincy, 38-16, each left eight runners on base. It was the Hawks which took more advantage of its baserunners. Dunning collected three hits in the win and improved his record to 7-5 as a pitcher. Cameron Cheek, a first team All-GLVC selection, suffered the loss in 6 1/3 innings of work. SIUE next faces Northern Kentucky at noon Saturday in a tournament elimination game. The winner faces off against Quincy in a 6 p.m. game Saturday. Northern Kentucky took its first loss of the tournament Friday with a 3-1 loss to Rockhurst. |
