SIUE Baseball Signs Rend Lake Standouts
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball coach Gary Collins has signed a pitcher and a catcher for his 2006 roster, both of whom were teammates this season at Rend Lake College.
Corey Lewis (Marion) and Seth Hall (Harrisburg) have signed to become Cougars next season.
Lewis has appeared in 16 games and recorded a 4.94 earned run average with two saves. Collins said an early-season setback inflated his ERA and that he expects the right-hander will flourish as a Cougar.
“They have started him of late, and he’s pitched a couple of complete games,” said Collins.
Hall will join the Cougars as a catcher. He is batting .287 with seven doubles and a home run in 87 at bats. Collins and SIUE assistant coach Tony Stoecklin said his biggest asset is his defense.
“I think he’ll have one of the better throwing arms at catcher in the Great Lakes Valley Conference next season,” said Stoecklin.
The 2005 Cougars currently are 27-24 heading into the final week of the regular season.
