Cougars Sweep Past Oakland City
        EDWARDSVILLE - The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball team took two games from Oakland City 4-3 and 8-4 in non-conference action Wednesday at SimmonsCooper Complex.
        The Cougars improve to a season-high 16 games over .500, as they run their record to 28-12-1 overall. The Mighty Oaks fall to 17-17 on the season.
        Jeff Darnall went 4-6 with three RBIs in the two games.
        In the first game, the Cougars fell behind 1-0 only to score three runs in the third inning. SIUE gained a 4-1 advantage on an RBI single by Cory Bunner. Oakland City added runs in the sixth and the seventh, but the Cougars would hang on.
        Cody Litteken went five and one-third innings giving up one earned run on four his with four strikeouts. Litteken is now 3-1 on the season. James Hertel recorded his first save of the season.
        In the nightcap, the Cougars broke open a 1-1 tie, scoring six runs with two outs in the third inning. SIUE added a single run in the fourth inning as the Cougars cruised to victory.
        Patrick Keller ran his record to 3-0 on the year, going two and one-third innings.
        Bryan Newby went 2-3 with two RBIs in the second game.
        Danny Fletcher went 3-6 with two RBIs in the two games. Ryan Czyz scored three runs in the doubleheader.
        SIUE returns to action Saturday as Kyle Jones puts his streak of 54 scoreless innings on the line against Kentucky Wesleyan. It is alumni day at Roy Lee Field with free admission to all baseball alumni. There will be a reception after Saturday's doubleheader. The first pitch is set for noon at Roy Lee Field.
