Jones Extends NCAA D-II Record
        EDWARDSVILLE - Kyle Jones won his eighth game of the season Saturday and extended his season-long streak of scoreless innings to 54.
        The Cougars swept a doubleheader at Southern Indiana 1-0 and 6-3 in 11 innings.
        Jones threw six innings and struck out 10 while walking four. Patrick Keller threw a perfect seventh inning and collected his first save of the season. Keller has allowed just one unearned run in 23 innings this season.
        Jones is now 8-0 with five complete-game shutouts and three combined shutouts. He has struck ouot 66 hitters in 54 innings. Southern Indiana's best chance to score against Jones came in the fourth inning when Josh Malone doubled with one out and moved to third on an infield out by catcher Jed Davis. Jones thwarted the scoring effort by striking out Chad Bruce for the third out.
        SIUE improved to 25-11-1 overall and 20-10-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. USI fell to 14-24 and 11-23 in the GLVC. The same two teams play Sunday at Roy Lee Field with game time set for 1 p.m.
        SIUE's offense appeared only when necessary in both games.
        The Cougars scored their only run of game one in the first inning. Ryan Czyz led off the game with a single to right field. He later scored on an RBI single from Jake Smith.
        SIUE's string of innings without scoring extended from the second inning of game one until the top of the ninth in game two.
        Down 3-0, SIUE rallied for three runs. Jeff Darnall's double down the right field line drove home the tying run.
        SIUE doubled its score in the 11th inning.
        Bryan Newby doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third in a bunt single by Kyle Amerson. Czyz gave SIUE the lead with a sacrifice fly, scoring Newby. Amerson advanced to second on the sacrifice fly due to an error by USI center fielder Chad Werry and over to third on a wild pitch. He scored on an infield error off the bat of Cory Bunner. Bunner later scored on a wild pitch.
