Baseball Cougars Sign Zavada, Bunner
        Southern Illinois University Edwardsville baseball coach Gary Collins added a pitcher and a catcher for his 2005 team.
        Clay Zavada, of Streator, and Cory Bunner, of Jacksonville, will join the Cougars next season.
        Zavada is a left-handed pitcher who is transferring from Illinois Valley Community College. He finished sixth in the national among junior colleges in strikeouts per nine innings with 74 fanned batters in 57 2/3 innings. He also posted a 3.28 earned run average.
        "He's a hard-throwing lefty with a couple of good pitches. He should fit into our rotation," Collins said.
        Bunner, noted Collins, has a great arm to throw out runners and a quick bat.
        "He has the potential to become a good hitter at this level," Collins said.
        SIUE finished the 2004 season with a 20-32 record.
