Cougars Split With Indy
        EDWARDSVILLE, ILL.- Southern Illinois Edwardsville picked up a split with Indianapolis winning 5-4 in eight innings and dropping the night cap 8-6 on Sunday afternoon.
        Jake Smith drove home Jeff Darnall in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Cougars the win in game one. Smith had earlier notched a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning that tied the game.
        SIUE trailed the Greyhounds 4-0 after four innings, then the Cougars received a two out three-run triple from Cory Bunner in the fifth inning. Bunner went 3-4 in the contest.
        For the second day in a row Clay Zavada came out of the bullpen to get the win. He is now 3-3 on the season. Kyle Jones pitched six innings giving up two earned runs on three hits while fanning seven.
        The Cougars are in seventh place, two percentage points behind Bellarmine for sixth place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. SIUE has a record of 27-22 overall and 18-16 in league play. Indianapolis goes 20-32 overall and 13-25 in the conference.
        In the night cap, the Cougars jumped on the Greyhounds with a five-run first inning that saw SIUE knockout Indianapolis starting pitcher Mike McFadden after just two-thirds of an inning.
        The Greyhounds battled back with a eight-run fourth inning and the Cougars could never recover.
        Cameron Cheek pitched three and one-third innings giving up four earned runs on seven hits.
        Craig Ohlau went 2-3 with two runs scored and his second home run of the year in the seventh inning. Bryan Newby collected two hits and Smith was 1-4 with two RBIs.
        SIUE takes on Missouri-St. Louis in a doubleheader this Wednesday at Roy Lee Field with the first pitch at 2 p.m.
