April 30, 2005 Bunner's 10th inning Double Lifts Cougars EDWARDSVILLE, ILL.- Cory Bunner's 10th inning two-run double lifted Southern Illnois University Edwardsville baseball past Indianapolis 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars fell in the opener to Indianapolis 2-1 in nine innings. Bunner, a freshman, came to the plate with two outs and runs on first and third. He then drilled the first pitch to the right center field gap, scoring Ron Jones and Kyle Martin. Bunner finished 4-9 in the doubleheader. Jarad Rettberg pitched 9 1/3 innings, giving up one run while fanning nine for the no decision. Clay Zavada came out of the bullpen to get his second win. He is now 2-3 on the season. The Cougars are now tied fifth place with Bellarmine in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. SIUE holds a record of 26-21 overall and 17-15 in league play. Indianapolis goes 19-31 overall and 12-24 in the GLVC. The Greyhounds' Brandon Will took the loss throwing 9 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. SIUE fell to Indianapolis 3-2 in eight innings in the first game. Adam Tallman pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on five hits for the no decision. Jeff Darnall went 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored against the Greyhounds. SIUE will battle Indianapolis in a doubleheader again tomorrow at Roy Lee Field with the first pitch coming at Noon. -siue cougars- |
