April 6, 2005 Cougars Split with No. 16 Quincy QUINCY, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville won the nighcap 2-0 and managed a split with 16th-ranked Quincy University in college baseball action on Wednesday. Jarad Rettberg and Cameron Cheek combined on a three-hit shutout for the Cougars. Jeff Darnall drove home both runs for the Cougars, now 13-10 overall and 8-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy won the opener 5-1 as Ervin Bridgewater allowed just two hits by Adam Tallman. SIUE scored an unearned run in the fourth inning. The Cougars next head to UW-Parkside for a four-game series with the Rangers. SIUE is currently in a four-way tie for fourth place and hopes to gain some ground on the Rangers, 14-7 and 10-2 in the GLVC. Both doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday are schedule for noon starts. -siue cougars- |
