April 17, 2002 Rivermen Hold Off Cougars Despite a two-run rally in the ninth, Missouri-St. Louis held off Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 4-3 at Roy Lee Field. SIUE (21-18, 9-8 GLVC) play the rubber game of the three-game baseball series Thursday at Missouri-St. Louis (19-16, 8-9 GLVC). Missouri-St. Louis starter Matt Robinson tamed SIUE bats for eight innings before being pulled with two runners on in the ninth. Keith Wallace came in for the save. The Cougars picked up RBIs from Jeff Schwierjohn and Justin Baecht in the ninth but couldn't pick up the game-winner as Wes Pickering grounded into a force out with the bases loaded to end the game. UMSL took the lead in the fourth 1-0 on a solo homer by Brody Jackson and tallied two more runs in the fifth. Jackson picked up the final UMSL RBI on a sacrifice fly, scoring Jim Reiter who had tripled to leadoff the seventh. -siue cougars- |
